9:42AM - FYI

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND ? CINCINNATI CHAPTER
(WITH SPONSORSHIP FROM THE
SAFARI CLUB INTERNATIONAL)

proudly presents:
SENSORY SAFARI!

Have you ever cuddled a coyote? Measured with your hands the wingspan of a hawk? Compared the length of a panther to that of your own golden retriever?

For people who are blind or have limited vision, many of earth?s creatures can be seen only in the mind?s eye. If they fly too high or are simply too dangerous to touch, ?seeing? many of the beautiful life forms on earth has been beyond the reach of those of us who see with our hands.

Sensory Safari opens the door, so that seeing scores of animals (despite wings or claws or fangs or horns) is no longer restricted to the mind?s eye but seen clearly through the hands of people who are blind.

Join us September 11th for Sensory Safari, where touching every creature on display is welcomed.

When: Saturday, September 11, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: Izaak Walton League, 3504 Bevis Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45251
Activities include:
? Sensory Safari animal display
? Live horses to ride
? Opportunity to shoot a gun
? Use a crossbow

All are invited to stay for a cookout beginning at 4:30 PM. Blind people of all ages and their families are welcome.

A metro stop is near this location and Access will provide service to this address.

If you plan to attend contact Marianne Denning at 513-825-7817. We need to know how many people plan to attend and if you will be staying for the cook-out.

We hope to see you there!

Fundraiser For Blind Band To Go To Rosebowl

In less than two weeks, you can help a local band raise money for the trip of a lifetime ? a chance to be in the national spotlight.

And there's a history-making twist to this story.

With each warm-up note, the Clark Montessori steel drum band gets closer to its goal: a concert to help raise $100,000 for a trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day.

These musicians play with the joy and passion that comes from looking ahead to a band trip to sunny California.

But, this band is not going to the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Half the money it's raising is for another band to go: 17 members of the marching band from the Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus.

That's right ? a blind marching band, the only one in the nation ? and the first in the history of the Rose Bowl Parade.

The concert is the brainchild of teacher Bruce Weil, who lived at OSSB while in grad school.

His students will play in the concert with OSSB students.

And Bruce Weil hopes they'll make good music ? and learn a life lesson.

And it seems Weil may have accomplished that goal.

So, come New Year?s morning, if the finances work out, the OSSB marching band will make history on national television.

And the Clark Montessori band will be at home ? watching.

If you want to help these bands make history, the fundraising concert is November 18 at Clark Montessori School.

It's $6 for a single ticket and $20 for four tickets.

Weil says the Ohio State School for the Blind marching band is within $10,000 of its goal.
